Yes on EvergreenHealth Prop. 1

Questions about Prop. 1?

Here’s what you need to know about how this measure impacts our care, our community, and our future.

What is EvergreenHealth Proposition 1?

Prop. 1 is on the August ballot in King County Public Health District #2. It would renew voters’ commitment to EvergreenHealth through a levy lid lift.

Currently, the levy for King County Public Hospital District #2 is among the lowest of any Public Hospital District in the state. This measure simply brings our community’s contribution more in line with the statewide average.

What would Prop. 1 mean for our community?

Prop. 1 would provide critical funding for operations and facilities across the EvergreenHealth system including hiring more medical staff to help reduce wait times for appointments and services. This means expanded access to primary, emergency, and specialty care including maternity services and behavioral healthcare right here in our community.

Is EvergreenHealth a public hospital? How is it governed?

Yes, EvergreenHealth is locally controlled and accountable to local residents.  EvergreenHealth is a public hospital governed by a seven-member Board of Commissioners who are elected by voters in King County Public Hospital District #2. The district includes Kirkland, Redmond, Sammamish, Woodinville, Bothell, Duvall and Kenmore.

What does Prop. 1 mean for the future of EvergreenHealth?

Voting yes on Prop. 1 ensures EvergreenHealth stays independent, meaning our community will continue to receive high quality care close to home.  Without Prop.1, a merger with a larger medical organization may be unavoidable, meaning services and staff could be consolidated and local residents will likely have to travel to Seattle or other urban centers for many services.

Does passage of Prop. 1 mean decisions stay local?

Voting Yes on Prop. 1 keeps EvergreenHealth independent with local decision-making. Without it, EvergreenHealth may need to merge with a larger hospital network, meaning less local input on decisions that affect our community.

How much would Prop. 1 cost?

It authorizes a maximum regular property levy rate of 50 cents per $1,000 of assessed value.

Who supports Prop. 1?

Prop. 1 is supported by local physicians and nurses, firefighters and community leaders across the District.
